Some people think it’s sexist to refer to all humans as men, or mankind. I’ve read that the word, woman, was derived from the word, wif, (pronounced like wife,) but I find that unlikely. Somewhere I read that the word, woman, was originally wombman or a man with a womb. If ‘man’ is generic for human beings, that possible derivation makes sense, and I like to think it’s correct. Of course that doesn’t give us a specific word for male humans, and I prefer not to discuss possible words for those.
